Music

Music at Heatherside engages and inspires children to develop a love of music and their talent as musicians. Music plays an important role in increasing children's emotional well-being and confidence as well as their creativity and sense of achievement as they learn to compose, sing and listen critically to music. Music is an important part of the curriculum for children to learn about different types and components of music, explore instrument families and the sounds they make. This is taught weekly through practical sessions which include listening and appraising, singing and instrumental work, composing and improvising, and performing activities that aid the development of musical knowledge.

Music can be used across the whole curriculum to enrich children’s learning, as well as forming part of school assemblies, singing for special occasions and performances throughout the school year. In addition, children have the opportunity to join the school choir who perform at community and school events.
