Heatherside Infant School

Our Curriculum

Every state-funded school must offer a curriculum which is balanced and broadly based.

We want our children to have fun in their learning and therefore they are taught using a cross-curricular thematic approach.  We create whole school themes across the academic year that allow the children to explore either the seven areas of the Foundation Stage or the twelve subjects of the National Curriculum whilst covering the relevant learning objectives for their age group irrespective of the class they are in.

We want your child to engage, enthuse, enjoy and excel by providing your child with a supportive environment that allows them to explore and learn whist becoming confident and independent thinkers.

At Heatherside we follow the programmes of study for each curriculum area.  In Year R the Early Years Foundation Stage can be read in the Development Matters document and or in closer detail by clicking on the  Prime Areas and Specific Areas buttons below. In Years 1 and 2 the National Curriculum Key Stage 1 can be seen in detail by clicking on the curriculum subject area buttons below.

End of Key Stage 1 Assessments - please note that End of Key Stage 1 Assessments take place in May annually for our Year 2 children. Please ensure any illness absences are reported promptly to the School Office.  As these assessments are a statutory requirement, absence requests, unless for exceptional circumstances, will NOT be authorised.
